On the day The Academy Award nominations are announced so are the Golden Raspberry Award nominations. Oh the dichotomy! Hollywood's best and Hollywood's worst get special recognition on the same day and hand out their respective trophies one day apart. One difference is that The Razzies don't get a four-hour long primetime network broadcast to hand them out. Additionally the "winners" don't get any respect nor career boost from taking home a trophy.
Robert Downey Jr. leads the nominees with two noms - Worst Actor and Worst Screen Combo for "his utterly unconvincing Welsh accent" in the fantasy flick "Dolittle". It just so happens that I just bought the dvd of that movie (for the grandkids) and the best thing I can say is it's not great. "Dolittle" is also up for Worst Picture.
Former Saturday Night Live All-star Kristen Wiig snagged a Worst Supporting Actress nomination for "Wonder Woman 1984". I didn't see the movie but I never bought the idea she could play a convincing action movie villain, and I heard the movie was terrible. Other former SNL cast members Chevy Chase, David Spade and Adam Sandler are among this year's nominees. Glen Close has the odd fortune/misfortune of getting OSCAR and Razzie nominations for the same roll in the movie "Hillbilly Elegy". Look below at the list of nominees and you'll see some familiar names who have done terrific work, just not this year.
