Bellville Cemetery Walk 2021

September 11 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

The Village of Bellville’s 4th Cemetery Walk will be September 11th from 10:00 to 1:00. Enter from Ogle Street and park in the oval. Meet others at the entrance for guided groups. Interesting people from Bellville’s history will share their stories. Plan to spend 45 minutes to an hour. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

The Bellville Jefferson Township Historical Society along with the Village of Bellville is sponsoring this cemetery walk from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11th. The last group to start the tour will begin by 12:30 p.m.

The purpose of these characters of Bellville history being portrayed is to give people a glimpse into the rich history of Bellville.

Robert Stands is portraying Robert Bell who platted Bellville in 1815. Mr. Stands is from Columbia Station, OH, near Strongsville. His distant cousin, Merry Bering will portray Mary Bell, Robert’s wife. Both are sixth generation Bell descendants.

There will be no charge for participating in this event. However, a donation box will be at the table. Participants will be asked to sign a waiver absolving the cemetery board and the village from responsibility in case of accident. It is extremely important for children to stay with their groups and not play around the cemetery stones. Some of these stones are in fragile condition.

In order to allow for greatest efficiency, a group may not necessarily visit the graves in chronological order. A program guide will help people keep the character in historical perspective.

Bellville’s history is peppered with all sorts of interesting people and events. We have every reason to be proud of our heritage here. Whether you are a fifth-generation Bellville native or a newbie who just came recently, Bellville is and always has been home to some very special people.

Bring the whole family for this FREE event. Be prepared to sign a liability waiver to participate.
