How do your eyes feel today?
My eyes sting a little today as if I got soap in my eyes, only milder. It may have more to due to the fact that I sat in the sun all afternoon (pre-eclipse) without my sunglasses on. As you can see I did wear the proper solar eclipse protection during the event.
If you stared at the sun yesterday in amazement during the solar eclipse, you should know by now whether your eclipse glasses kept your eyes safe.
According to Google Trends, searches for "hurt eyes" spiked yesterday after the eclipse. The American Academy of Opthalmology says the symptoms of an eye injury typically begin within six hours of exposure to the sun, but could present after 12 hours. Symptoms of eye damage could include:
- Blurry vision.
- Headache.
- A blind spot in your central vision in one or both eyes.
- Increased sensitivity to light.
- Distorted vision such as a straight line appearing bent.
- Dyschromatopsia -- the way you see color.
