House Democrats Point to Republicans Amid Government Shutdown

House Democrats say they're ready for negotiations, after blaming their Republican counterparts for the government shutdown. 

Democratic Caucus Chair Joseph Crowley of New York insists that Democrats never wanted this shutdown.  

"Democrats worked tirelessly to avoid the shutdown," Crowley said. "Not a single democrat wanted to see critical federal programs shutter their doors or put our economy at risk."

Representative Cheri Bustos of Illinois stressed that bipartisan solutions are needed to drive any sort of a deal.  

Democratic Caucus Chair Joseph Crowley of New York said Republicans failed the American people.  

Kentucky Congressman John Yarmuth of Kentucky said the incompetence of the Republican majority in the House and Senate and the White House is to blame for the shutdown.
