Ashland County Spike in Homelessness

The number of homeless people in Ashland County in 2019 has nearly doubled, compared to last year. Appleseed Community Mental Health Center, who conducts the annual homeless county each year, said during their count last month 31 people were homeless, compared to 16 in 2018. Karen Carroll, Housing Coordinator for the Health Center, said there are over 200 homeless in Ashland County when you include those living with family members or friends. RichlandSource.com reports some feel a shrinking stock of affordable housing in the county has contributed to the spike in homelessness.
