Mother’s Day is on Sunday, and if you haven’t gotten anything for mom, you’re in luck. 57% of Americans plan to give mom a nice card for Mother's Day, and that's great -- because it's exactly what she wants. According to a survey conducted by Lending Tree, the top gift on mom's wish list this year is just that -- a nice greeting card. 36% of moms said they'd like that over spending quality time with family (32%) and flowers or plants (29%).
But despite all that, Americans are still expected to spend an average of $225 on the Mother's Day gifts this year, up from $219 last year. Here are some other interesting findings from the survey:
- 20% of moms say they've been disappointed by Mother's Day gifts in the past.
- 40% of consumers say their moms have scolded them in the past for spending too much on them.
- 33% of Americans plan to take on more debt to get mom something really nice.
