The Mansfield Planning Commission has rejected a zoning request from a Florida based developer to build up to 300 new doublewide mobile homes on the northeast side of town.

RichlandSource.com reports, the request will now go before city council to possibly allow for housing development on the former site of the Dawson Ridge Golf Course at the corner of Grace Street and Von Hoff blvd.

Many residents from the neighborhood spoke at the meeting against the idea, citing concerns over increase traffic, crime and inadequate water and service lines to support the large project.

The developer said there is a massive need in the community for affordable housing and had hundreds of possible buyers on a waiting list.
