Dump Truck Driver Dies In Crash On I-71 In Richland County

Fatal Crash on Interstate 71

Mansfield – The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Mansfield Post, is investigating a one vehicle crash involving a commercial dump truck on Interstate 71 near State Route 39. The crash happened on June 2, 2023 at approximately 12:40PM. The crash occurred when a 2006 Mack dump truck hauling gravel experienced a suspected front tire blow out. The vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway striking the guardrail before overturning and traveled down an embankment. The truck became engulfed in flames from the impact. The unidentified male driver sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

The interstate experienced traffic delays while the crash was being investigated, all lanes are now open for vehicular travel.

Richland County ODOT, Auer’s Towing, Richland County Coroner’s office, Madison and Mifflin Fire and EMS all assisted at the scene.  

The crash remains under further investigation at this time.
