Randy Houser Talks About Acting with Leonardo DiCaprio

Randy Houser called into The Bobby Bones Show to talk about his new album Note To Self, his acting debut with Leonardo DiCaprio and how he got his role in Killers of the Flower Moon.

It’s been a big year for Houser. He and his wife welcomed a new baby, he’s been working on new music, and he started acting! It’s been a while since he’s released an album, but his new one, Note To Self, is out today (November 11.) Usually on album release day, House would go to Target and Walmart to buy it, but those days don’t really exist anymore. Now he might just look on social media to see what people are saying about it. The record has ten new songs on it, which he feels is the perfect amount for people to really get to spend time and focus on the songs. He likes when a project has less songs because you can concentrate more on it.

Country Round Here Tonight” is the most traditional country song on the record to him. It reminds him of when he was 17 years old, riding around Mississippi and setting up to play at small local bars. He describes it as “That classic, barroom, country, 90s vibe.”

Houser said of course people talk badly about him, but he’s learned not to pay attention to it and wants people to know that what they do say can really hurt your feelings. He doesn't think people realize that when they are typing it to the screen.

Houser is making his acting debut with his role in Killers of the Flower Moon. He plays an attorney that is the guardian over DiCaprio’s character’s estate. Martin Scorsese is the director of the film, and he said it was intimidating working with him, especially on his first day of filming when he filmed lines with DiCaprio, and on his second day, he filmed with Robert De Niro.

Houser did have to audition for the role, which is not something he ever saw himself doing, but the request came through his management, and they asked if he’d be interested in reading for it. He went through the process five times and on the fifth they asked if he’d be willing to cut his hair and shave for the role. He agreed and booked the part! The conversation was so crazy, Bones wanted to wait and get the full story for when Houser could come into the studio. Killers of the Flower Moon will be out next year.
