Tis The Season For Divorces And Clean Slates

"Should old acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind?" For some "Yes" and as quickly as possible! Just as one year ends and a new one begins it seems relationships tend to go through a transition period this time of year.

Divorce lawyers are calling January “Divorce Month.” Why wait until the new year to end the old relationship? Perhaps holiday stress is the last straw. Maybe each half of the relationship is thinking of the kids and avoiding making Christmas suck for years to come because that's when Mommy and Daddy broke up. It could be as simple as having the desire to start the new year with a clean slate. That's a harsh resolution.

Regardless, it seems many couples wait until just after the holiday season to call it quits. January signifies new beginnings, and for many, those new beginnings don't involve their old partner. Pandemic-related stress could also keep divorce attorneys even busier this year.

In a related story, if you are looking for love in the New Year? You’re not alone. According to research, January is the most active month for online dating. Coincidence? Some people end one relationship and immediately begin shopping for the next one.
