ROALD DAHL'S MATILDA THE MUSICAL OPENS AT THE RENAISSANCE

. The Renaissance Theatre will kick off the 2019-2020 Richland Bank Broadway Series with a fully staged production of Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical on July 27-28, and August 3-4, 2019.

Directed by Michael Thomas with Music Direction by Kelly Knowlton, Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical is the story of an extraordinary girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny. Inspired by the twisted genius of Roald Dahl, the Tony Award-winning musical is a captivating masterpiece from the Royal Shakespeare Company that revels in the anarchy of childhood, the power of imagination and the inspiring story of a girl who dreams of a better life. With book by Dennis Kelly and original songs by Tim Minchin, Matilda has won 47 international awards and continues to thrill sold-out audiences of all ages around the world.

Matilda (played by Corlyn Stauffer) is the daughter of abusive parents who finds refuge in library books. Things are no better at school, where Matilda must also face a tyrannical and cruel headmistress, Miss Trunchbull (play by Stephen Joshua Thompson) who believes “Children are Maggots.” Matilda finds an understanding ear in her teacher, Miss Honey (Matti-Lynn Chrisman), who is shy and meek. Knowing she has to stand up against the adults in her world, Matilda discovers her own remarkable powers and ends up teaching Miss Honey and her classmates an important lesson - that even though life can be hard, “nobody but me is gonna change my story.”

The Matilda cast will be rounded out by Ryan Shreve, Kara Hancock, Carter Underwood, ESaelynn Cameron, Aaron Sharp, Katie Harrigan, Bob Gardner, Justice Gardner, Kristen Sharp, Katie Baughn, Abby Bechstein, Darius Darmody, Nykera Gardner, Molly Given, Madalyn Huvler, Madison Kearney, Georgia Knowlton, Lily Kime, Lily McCready, Ross Preuttmiller, Rowan Pruettmiller, Zak Ramos, Payne Schwartz, McKenna Stoffer and Cassandra Kurek.
