Mount Vernon to Host Carpenters Tribute Concert

Mount Vernon to Host Carpenters Tribute Concert

A tribute concert featuring the music of the famed duo of the 1970s The Carpenters will be presented on February 15, at 7:00 PM. The site will be the Thorne Performance Hall located in the chapel building on the campus of Mount Vernon Nazarene University. The address of the university is 800 Martinsburg Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio.

Haley Joy Harris, who hails from Tulsa, will provide the vocals. She is a Branson performer who recently played the role of Mary in the Silver Dollar City Nativity presentation. Harris is no stranger to Mid-Ohio. She has toured in the area the last four years with her sister in the duo of Camille and Haley. Harris’ voice has been acclaimed by other performers in Branson as an exact match to that of Karen Carpenter. Not only does Harris’ voice sound like that of the late star, she also delivers the songs with the same emotional feeling which was a distinct characteristic of Karen Carpenter. A sample of this may be seen at YouTube, just key in “Haley Harris Merry Christmas Darling.” The voice is that of Haley Harris but close your eyes and you’ll think you are hearing Karen Carpenter,

The event will also have a moment when attention will be given to the problem of eating disorders that many of today’s young people experience. Karen Carpenter’s life was cut short at the age of 32 due to complications related to Anorexia.

Close to You, We’ve Only Just Begun, Superstar, Rainy Days and Mondays, Jamalaya and other Carpenter hits will transport you back to the 70s where it will be Yesterday Once More. To reserve tickets to pick up at Will Call, email your name and number of tickets to harriscarpentertribute@yahoo.com. Unclaimed tickets will be released for resale ten minutes prior to the show.
