Halloween Candy: Excessive Amounts Can Be Deadly!

As if permitted by proclamation, Halloween is a day when we devour as much candy as we want. Often times we pay the price for such indulgence. Weight gain, belly aches, vomiting, diarrhea, etc are just a few of the negative side effects. We should have listened to our parents. "Don't eat too much or you'll a) ruin your appetite b) make yourself sick c) get hyper d) break out in pimples." They never said "too much can kill you!" Well, how much is too much? And what will really happen if we eat too much Halloween candy?

I know, I generally promise no math, but here goes. Scientists have figured out exactly how much candy one would have to eat to actually die, based on the amount of sugar being consumed. They found that a 180-pound person would have to eat approximately 262 pieces of fun-sized candy and 1,627 pieces of candy corn to reach a lethal dose of sugar. You can calculate your own lethal dose for fun-sized candy by multiplying your weight by 13.5 and dividing it by 9.3. For candy corn, divide everything by 1.5. Happy Halloween!\

The rule of thumb "everything in moderation" applies. Your Halloween haul should easily last until Christmas.
