Lecture: The Challenges Facing Our Nation

Now in his second term in the U.S. Senate, Rob Portman has been a dedicated public servant for over 30 years. He began his career in public service as the Director of the White House Office of Legislative Affairs under George H.W. Bush and since then has served as a congressman, as the U.S. Trade Representative, and as Director of the Office of Budget Management, prior to being elected to the Senate in 2006.

Senator Portman has built a reputation as a leader who stands by his principles while also working across the aisle to deliver results. On January 25th, 2021, Senator Portman surprised the political establishment by announcing he would not be seeking a third term in the Senate, citing partisan gridlock as one reason why.

As our nation continues to struggle with serious problems, Ashbrook is pleased to welcome Senator Portman to discuss how we can attempt to work together to solve them.

Congressman Troy Balderson on Wednesday, April 13th, 2022 at 12:00 p.m.

Lecture: The battle for the Suburbs

U.S. Congressman Troy Balderson represents Ohio's 12th Congressional District, which covers Licking, Delaware, and Morrow counties, and parts of Franklin, Marion, Muskingum, and Richland counties. His focus is on issues important to Ohio such as preparing the next generation for in-demand jobs, bolstering manufacturing here at home, lessening our reliance on countries like China, fighting for energy independence, and stopping the flow of illegal drugs into our communities.

Congressman Balderson's district has included suburban areas, and especially in recent years, America's suburbs have been hotly contested in electoral politics. What lies behind this new battleground? What forces are tugging the hearts and minds of Americans-including those in the suburbs-in different directions?

Ashbrook is pleased to welcome Congressman Troy Balderson to discuss these questions and more. Not a politician by trade, Congressman Balderson brings a farmer's and businessman's perspective to the issues facing America.
