Hmmmmm...a large, very sharp knife and an odd shaped gourd...what could go wrong? If you're planning to take a stab at carving a jack-o-lantern, or letting your kids do it, be very careful. Each year, there are about two-thousand pumpkin carving injuries reported, with most occurring in the middle to end of October, and many of them involve kids. According to the American Journal of Emergency Medicine, pumpkin-carving mishaps sent more than 20,000 people to the emergency room over the past 10 years. 88% of the injuries involved a cut to the hand.
