Four of the top five movies at the box office last weekend are sequels. The latest installments from the John Wick, Shazam, Creed and Scream franchises all landed in the top five. The strongest of which is John Wick: Chapter 4. On one hand you could say there are no fresh ideas coming out of Hollywood, only rehashing existing storylines. I'd say that as well but my wife says I'm too negative. So, let's look at it like this: Hollywood has created such great characters we can't wait to see them in new adventures. -Matt Appleby

John Wick: Chapter 4 scored a franchise-best $73.5 million opening weekend. The Keanu Reeves action flicks have been improving at the box office with each installment. The original John Wick had a $14 million debut in 2014, Chapter 2 did $30.4 million in 2017 and Chapter 3 earned $56.8 million in 2019.

Creed III climbed from third to second with $10.4 million, while Shazam! Fury of the Gods dropped from first to third with $9.7 million.

Scream VI was fourth with $8.4 million and 65 was fifth with $3.3 million.
