It's World Radio Day! What does that mean for me? Well, it gives me a chance to reflect back to those days in the 1970s when I made pretend radio shows on a cassette recorder and send them to my friend who had moved away. Remembering the first time I set foot in a real radio station, WNCO, in January 1980. That was second semester of my senior year of high school. I could spend two class periods a day learning from veterans like John James. WNCO took a chance and hired me part time in June of 1980 and then promoted me to full time in January of 1981. So many adventures, too many to recount here. So many friendships made along the way most importantly my wife, Kelly (Sheehan) Appleby whom I met here on the job and who spent some 30 years on the air herself. Jump to the 2020s where I wear many hats and my overall career in broadcasting has lasted over four decades. My thanks to everyone who taught, guided and encouraged me along the way. And thanks to announcers around the country and the world who inspired me. It's World Radio Day, let's celebrate the biz and its people!
