Country music fans have seen their share of tribute albums featuring Country stars singing the hits of a rock band or artist. Most notably "Common Thread: Songs of the Eagles" which came out in 1998. "Stone Cold Country" (for the Rolling Stones, released in 2023) and a couple for Lynyrd Skynyrd including "Anthems: Honoring the Music of Lynyrd Skynyrd which was assembled by former Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle, featuring country and rock stars, and was released in 2023). A new tribute collection was announced today and it's lead single is making it's world premiere on iHeartRadio!
The Tom Petty estate has assembled a new tribute album that features country stars.
Petty Country is due out on May 31st and it features Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Chris Stapleton, Marty Stuart, George Strait, The Brothers Osbourne and many more.
Two former Heartbreakers also appear on the album -- Mike Campbell helps Margo Price on "Ways to Be Wicked," while Benmont Tench appears on Rhiannon Giddens's take on "Don't Come Around Here No More."
The first single is Dierks Bentley's version of "American Girl," is making its World Premiere on 101.3 WNCO today, and is on YouTube.
